Ringwood under-10s (pictured) are celebrating a remarkable change of fortune after winning the Dorset Mini Section Three title.
Manager Steve Turner explained: “Last year we came second from bottom in the east section of the Dorset League.
“We were coming up against strong teams such as Wimborne and Poole, so have benefitted from the leagues being chosen on abilities rather than geographically.
“The enthusiasm generated from winning is very positive. Every player has improved and as a team we have grown in confidence.”
Ringwood kicked off their title-winning campaign with a 6-0 victory at Portland in September which started a winning streak that only came to an end in April.
Turner’s team won 20 matches in succession, before the winning run ended against Wool in the second to last game. But the title had already been wrapped up with three games to spare.
Ringwood’s impressive goal tally for the season is 128 with only 20 conceded. Leading goalscorer was James Giller (51), followed by Jack Musselwhite (19) and Lewis Brooks (17).
The notable performances were a 4-3 away win at Wool where they were 3-0 down in the second half, and a double over Corfe Castle who beat Ringwood 2-0 last year in the cup.
In the final game, a 3-0 win over Corfe Castle, all 14 squad members played half a game each.
