BOURNEMOUTH Poppies under-12 girls were the shoot-out stars of the New Forest Plate final at Fawley.
They also became the club’s first girls team to win silverware.
Manager Adrian Fryer’s team beat local rivals Boscombe Albion Rockets 3-2 in a penalty shoot-out after the match had finished 2-2.
Rockets took an early lead through Emily-May Smith before Nikki Vincent levelled for Poppies as the teams went into the interval at 1-1.
Jamie Fryer gave Poppies the advantage before Rockets took the match into extra-time with a late equaliser from Zoe Cremonini.
The teams couldn’t be separated after 10 minutes of extra-time, so the match went to penalties.
Nikki and Jamie once again found the target from the penalty spot with Chloe Traves netting the third.
Boss Fryer said: “In the second half of the season we really started to get our act together and play some proper football.
“We’ve never actually beaten the Rockets over the past three seasons, so to win in the plate final was excellent.”
Poppies secured their place in the plate final with a 2-1 win over Alderburys Aces.
