CAPTAIN Dave Coy believes Cranborne may have unearthed a “massive prospect” in 13-year-old all-rounder Scott Norton.
Coy was speaking after Scott had taken his first wickets in men’s cricket during Cranborne’s win over Dorset League Division One rivals Christchurch on Sunday.
Verwood-based Scott, who attends Emmanuel School, claimed two for 16 from his four overs as Cranborne dismissed Christchurch for 102 in reply to their 266 for two.
Scott, who played a couple of games for the men’s team at the end of last season, is also involved with the New Forest squad and plays midweek games for New Milton.
Cranborne skipper Coy said: “Scott bowls a really good line and length and was swinging the ball a lot against Christchurch.
“He can only bowl in four-over spells due to his age and he only went for four runs an over, which is very respectable in limited-overs cricket.
“He is a massive prospect for our club. He also knows how to bat and times the ball very well for someone of his age. He always tries to play proper shots rather than just swinging for it like a lot of other lads at his age.”
