SKIPPER Ron Barker has set his sights on lifting the Division One title after plotting Swanage’s convincing 105-run victory over Winton.
Swanage, who finished as runners-up last season, bounced back in style after losing their curtain-raiser to newly-promoted Fovant.
Matt Thomas (70) and Ian Booth (63) shared a second-wicket stand of 90 as Swanage posted a challenging 201 for six against Winton.
And with Ryan Norman (4-16), Booth (3-16) and Barker (2-19) all returning tidy spells, Winton were shot out for 96.
“It was an exceptional performance,” said Barker. “We were gutted after losing to Fovant and worked hard during the week in practice.
“We were really focused against Winton and it showed. We stepped up our game. It is a competitive league but we are going for it this season.”
• A devastating opening burst from Dave Coombs spearheaded Ferndown Wayfarers to a 26-run triumph over Cranborne at Dolman’s Farm.
Coombs (3-16) ripped out the Cranborne top order with Lee Poore, Oli Hand and Ashley Collison all back in the pavilion with the score on 12.
Dean Elsworthy (2-38) then accounted for Dan Loader (22) and Dave Coy before Eric Linge (3-13) came on to mop up the tail as Cranborne were dismissed for 138.
Earlier, Matthew Rose (55) had set about the Cranborne attack, his swashbuckling knock underpinning Ferndown Wayfarers’ 164 for six.
Rose cracked two fours and three towering sixes during his 64-ball stay with Craig McLean (25) and Leigh Dunham (23) also chipping in.
• Christchurch’s clash against Shillingstone fell foul of the weather, while St Georges (130-5) beat Fovant (129) by five wickets.
