MANAGER Paul Groves has revealed he is preparing to launch a bid for Miles Addison as he aims to reinforce his Cherries squad this summer.
Groves confirmed that the former Dean Court loan star was among the transfer targets already identified on his wanted list.
The Cherries boss is keen to boost his options after releasing a number of out-of-contract players on Monday.
Derby County man Addison, who has a year remaining on his deal at Pride Park, is likely to be on the move as Rams manager Nigel Clough has indicated he could be allowed to leave.
Addison reported last week that he would consider joining Cherries on a permanent basis – if they convince him of their Championship ambitions.
And Groves is keen to secure the services of the defender/midfielder.
He told the Daily Echo: “I think Miles has lots of qualities. He would be one we would look at trying to do something with.
“Whether we can is another issue because you have to take into account where Miles is in respect of playing for a Championship club, but that is something that will be looked into.
“He is contracted to the football club (Derby). We have spoken with Miles briefly with regards to his situation and that is something that has been assessed and spoken about over the course of a number of days.”
Groves added: “There are one or two players that we have in mind. It can end up being a long, drawn-out process at times and that is where you possibly have to be patient.
“You have to make sure that all the checks and background are done on the players to make sure they are the right players to take the club forward.
“You look into every aspect of the player so that you know exactly what you are bringing into the football club.”
While versatile centre-half Addison is one of Groves’s targets, the Cherries boss has highlighted the need for more firepower.
Cherries conceded a respectable 52 goals in League One last season but they only mustered a paltry tally of 48 at the other end, with bottom two Rochdale and Exeter the only teams with a worse record.
Groves added: “You look to improve the squad full stop.
“When you look at the stats this season, the goals conceded record is up there and in and around the top six.
“Where the squad needs improvement is scoring more goals and that needs to be recognised.
“That needs to be addressed, not just by the centre forwards but as a whole team.”
