HARRY Redknapp is tipping Cherries’ new management duo to be a success at Dean Court and he insists: I am happy to help them.

The legendary former Cherries boss voiced his support for Paul Groves and assistant Shaun Brooks after they signed two-year contracts at the Dorset club.

Both Groves and Brooks gained coaching experience as part of Redknapp’s backroom staff during his time at Portsmouth.

Cherries’ managerial announcement last week sparked a backlash among sections of the club’s fan-base after some supporters had called for a more experienced successor to Lee Bradbury.

But Tottenham boss Redknapp feels Groves and Brooks will form a strong partnership – and he is keen to lend a hand in the loan market.

In an exclusive interview with the Daily Echo, Redknapp said: “I like Grovesy, he is a good lad, and Shaun Brooks as well.

“Shaun played for me at Bournemouth and worked for me at Portsmouth for a while, so I am pleased for the pair of them. I think they will do a great job.

“Paul is a quiet man. He is very dedicated, a hard worker, a good coach and he knows the game. He is just a smashing guy and I think he will do very well.

“Shaun worked with the young players at Portsmouth for me and he was great. I really enjoyed having him and I thought he was great working with the kids and I think he will be great with the first team.

“Shaun is a great technical coach and he was an excellent player for me at Bournemouth when I was there.

“I think they will be a really good team.”

Redknapp said he would be contacting the duo to offer potential recruits from Spurs.

Since leaving Dean Court, he has sent the likes of Rio Ferdinand and Jermain Defoe to learn their trade on the south coast.

The 65-year-old said: “We have got some good young players here that we will be looking to loan out next season and if I can help them with some loans, I would be only too pleased to help those two, that is for sure.

“There are some good, young players here at the club who I think need to get out on loan and they would do a great job for Bournemouth.”

Redknapp guided Cherries into English football’s second tier for the first and only time in the club’s history during a popular stint in charge. In his first managerial post, he led Cherries to their best ever league finish of 12th in the old second division in 1989.

Sandbanks-based Redknapp added: “It is a smashing club and I want to see them to do well.”
