DORSET opened their South West Under-14 League campaign with a convincing 7-2 victory over Cornwall at Bridport & West Dorset on Saturday.
A fine display in the singles, played over 18 holes, saw Dorset win all but one of their six matches after the nine-hole foursomes encounters had been closely contested by the two counties.
Captain George Davis (Park-stone) and Tom Plumb (Yeovil) got Dorset off to a flying start by carding a 4 & 2 victory over Zak Omlo and Conor Davidson in the opening foursomes match.
And although George Carroll (Dorset Golf & County Club) and Dominic Dunstan (Ashley Wood) suffered a narrow 2 & 1 defeat at the hands of Jared Mortimore and Lewis Annear, Dorset edged ahead thanks to a 2 & 1 triumph for Ben Small (Parkstone) and Adam Harris (Yeovil) over Kieran Bowden and Mikey McKelvey.
Conor Davidson was the only Cornwall winner in the singles, his tense one-hole victory over George Davis going to the 18th.
George Carroll (3 & 2) toppled Zak Omlo, Tom Plumb (4 & 3) eased past Jared Mortimore, Dominic Dunstan (3 & 1) saw off Lewis Annear, Ben Small (2 & 1) beat Kieran Bowden and Adam Harris (4 & 3) accounted for Mikey McKelvey.
Dorset, Cornwall, Devon and Somerset compete for the Jack Roberts Trophy. Max Bale (Ashley Wood) and Steffan Foley (Parkstone) were also named in the Dorset squad.
