NEW recruit Ciaran Quinn played a leading role as Bournemouth wiped out their points deficit thanks to a dramatic two-wicket win over Division One rivals Hampshire Academy.

The teenage all-rounder, who stepped into the SPL after helping Poole Town lift the Dorset League crown last season, made telling contributions with bat and ball.

Quinn’s first intervention came after the young Royals had reached 157 for three, the 18-year-old claiming the scalp of former Poole Town team-mate Michael Porter (22) to end his 50-run stand with James Halson.

And although Quinn (2-76) was a tad expensive from his 10 overs, he also accounted for Halson (54) who top scored as the Academy posted an impressive 264 for five on the Rose Bowl Nursery ground.

Bournemouth, searching for their first win of the season, made a dreadful start to their reply after former Parley paceman Tom Barber (3-53) had claimed Park brothers Nick and James with the score on four.

And although opener Mark ‘Mouse’ House (52) steadied the ship at one end, victory still looked a long way off after he had become the sixth man out with Bournemouth on 136.

However, a stand of 59 between Dave Kidner (33) and teenager Jake Hurley (64) steered Bournemouth to 195 for seven before an unbroken partnership of 50 between Quinn (33) and skipper Scott Barlow (14) saw Bournemouth home with a ball to spare.
