Broadstone captain Greg Parsons masterminded victory over Parley – but then tipped the mis-firing big guns to force their way into the title mix.
Parsons was delighted after his team had maintained their fine form on Saturday with a two-wicket win.
James Brown’s century paved the way for Broadstone to collect a fourth success of the season and it also condemned much-fancied Parley to a third defeat of 2012.
Despite their early-season struggles, Parsons believes Parley will still be in contention for the silverware.
He told the Daily Echo: “Parley will be there or thereabouts because they are very strong – they bat down to 11 and have seven bowling options. They are too good not to be in the mix.”
Brown’s 111 from as many deliveries proved crucial to Broadstone’s run chase on Saturday.
Kieran Price (53*) top-scored as Parley registered 222 for seven. But despite batting through consistent light rain, Brown and Sam Chapman (45) laid the platform for Broadstone.
Broadstone’s John Burns and Parley duo Sam Thomson and Mark Morley all took three wickets apiece.
• Ferndown Wayfarers were hammered by Stalbridge in a surprise 241-run thumping.
Stalbridge, without a win in their opening four league games, racked up 304 for six before demolishing the Wayfarers line-up for 63.
Ollie Calcott (88), Alex Sullivan (52) and Reece Wilson (50) all found form with the bat as Neil Sexton (3-58) proved the pick of the Wayfarers attack.
And Stalbridge then made quick work of defending their target as they skittled Ferndown for 63 inside 27 overs. Sexton (24*) was the only batsman to reach double figures.
• Wimborne & Colehill made it five wins from five with a rain-hit success over Weymouth at Redlands.
In reply to the hosts’ 191, the league leaders reached 130 for five to emerge victorious due to a faster run-rate – after the wet weather had caused lengthy delays.
Ben Bridgen (60*) was the star of the Wimborne batting effort, with Oliver Bertrand marking his first appearance of the season for the Minstermen with a haul of four for 31. Debutant Tom Butcher, 16, also performed well as he claimed two for 34.
• Top-flight new boys Winton are still looking for their first victory after tasting defeat for the fourth time this season.
Winton had no answer to Dorchester’s Dan Belt as his unbeaten 112 secured a six-wicket win for the county town outfit.
Winton had earlier posted a respectable 240 for nine batting first thanks to excellent contributions from young duo John Duke (82) and Matt Clarke (56).
