FORMER skipper Jamie Thomas laid the platform for Poole Town to secure a dramatic victory over struggling Blandford in a nail-biting contest.

Thomas played a leading role with a five-wicket haul as the hosts just got home in a low-scoring encounter on a tricky Poole Park track.

The visitors were quickly made to regret their decision to bat first as they slumped to 129 all out.

The only Blandford players to reach double figures were Mick Shepherd (40) and skipper Stuart Robbins (30).

Most of the damage was done by Thomas (5-30) and team-mate John Fairless (3-11) as the duo ripped through the Blandford batting line-up.

But what might have seemed a straightforward chase was made to look difficult by the defending league champions – who also struggled to adapt to the conditions.

Martin Miller hit 27 but Poole found themselves in trouble when they were reduced to 67 for 5 after 23 overs.

But Dave Miller showed a cool head to guide them home with a patient 56-ball 19 not out.

Andy Lawrence (3-18), Shepherd (3-36) and Richie Thomas (2-33) were the successful bowlers for Blandford.
