ADAM Smith was full of praise for Harry Wilson’s stunning strike against Manchester City, stating: “I don’t think I’ve seen a better free-kick”.
The Liverpool loanee was introduced on 37 minutes against the Premier League champions in place of the injured Charlie Daniels and he wasted little time in making his mark on the contest.
Fresh off netting on his debut at Aston Villa the previous week, Wilson bent a left-footed free-kick into the top corner via the post, giving goalkeeper Ederson no chance.
And full-back Smith was impressed with the strike.
He said: “Honestly, I don’t think I’ve seen a better free-kick than that.
“I don’t think he could’ve got it any better into the top corner.
“What an impact from him and he’s got great quality.”
Wilson’s effort reduced the deficit to 2-1 just before half-time after strikes from Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling.
But Aguero netted again after the restart to earn a 3-1 win with Cherries left to rue their missed opportunities with both Callum Wilson and Smith himself denied from deep inside the penalty area.
Recalling his chance, Smith said: “I should’ve finished it off.
“It was quite high so I hit it with my left foot and I honestly don’t know how the keeper saved it.
“I think it’s clipped his ear or something. But I’ve got to be more clinical.
“A few of the other lads had good chances that we should’ve scored really.”
He continued: “Obviously coming into the game you know it’s going to be a tough chance to win.
“It shows where we’ve come from really and last season I don’t think we even had a shot on target.
“It’s definitely an improvement from last season and hopefully we can take a bit of confidence going into the next game.”
Cherries sit 11th in the embryonic league table with four points from their three matches so far having drawn with Sheffield United and beaten Aston Villa before the defeat to Man City.
Eddie Howe’s men host Forest Green Rovers in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday before travelling to Leicester in the league on Saturday.
“We were disappointed to lose on Sunday, but I think you’ve got to take the positives and it’s going to be another tough game on Wednesday and on Saturday as well against Leicester,” said Smith.
