A PODIUM finish for Poole Pirates star Tom Brennan at the British Final has secured a wildcard spot at the British Grand Prix in Cardiff later this year.

After topping the overall standings, Brennan finished third behind Dan Bewley and Tai Woffinden in the grand final at Belle Vue.

Brennan dropped just two points in the heats, securing a haul of 13 points from a possible 15 to claim the wildcard spot for August’s British GP in Wales.

Unfortunately, going all the way on the night proved too much for the 22-year-old, with Bewley making it a hat-trick of wins with his third-straight British Final victory.

There were four former Pirates in the grand final, Woofinden, Steve Worrall, Adam Ellis, and Chris Harris all qualifying for the showpiece event.

Ex-Poole riders Anders Rowe and Drew Kemp competed in the heats, whilst current Pirate number one Richard Lawson pulled out from the event.

Speaking about the experience, Brennan shared: "I had a fantastic night, just a shame I couldn't go the extra step but I guess that is mainly down to experience.

“I mean, if you look at the three guys next to me they obviously know how to handle the situation.

“My team did fantastic and thanks to my family and sponsors who have got me here, but obviously I still have a way to go and those boys showed me the way to do it in the final.

“But definitely we'll keep working.

“Cardiff is something very special for British riders and it is a massive occasion for myself.

“To rock up against the best riders in the world is obviously my dream, so for me it is going to be a massive experience and I am going to take this opportunity with both hands."
