NEXT to my house is a narrow space with enough room for a small car. The back wheels just meet up with the pavement so is visible from the road.

On Sundays my daughter drives to Wallisdown to collect her two year old grandson plus her son and his twins to attend St Mark’s Church. On Sunday November 18 a car was parked half way across the drive. No church. I phoned the police. We were boxed in.

My afternoon trip to visit my great grandchildren had to be abandoned. They came to me. After 3pm I phoned the police again and was told they couldn’t make contact with the owner, there was nothing they could do apart from putting an order on the car. Students in this road leave their cars for 5/7 days.

My daughter leaves the house at 7am, drives to work at Poole Hospital and leaves at 6pm. Without a car she would, at great expense, travel by bus putting one hour each way on her already busy day. Taxi would cost £40 a day. My daughter is in her 50s and has had two operations, chemo and radiotherapy for cancer and does not need this added stress. I am nearly 80 and registered disabled. With my grandson’s wife we went knocking on the doors in Cardigan Road and found the owner.

This is not a rare event. Twice recently I have phoned the police as the driveway was blocked. The police were very efficient and the problem solved within two hours.

Perhaps someone could advise me whether I am within my rights to engage a garage to remove offending vehicles.
