HAS yet another ‘national’ problem hit Bournemouth?

Is Dorset Enterprises just an additional casualty of 21st century thinking?

Cllr Chris Mayne graphically illuminates the problem currently creating turmoil and despair in thousands of homes nationally when he acknowledges that the council’s concentration has been on aligning its policies with ‘21st century thinking’.

How many Bournemouth councillors who are making momentous decisions affecting disabled people are aware of the abundance of evidence provided by reputable organisations and individuals confirming the disastrous state of learning disability policies nationally?

How many are aware of aspects of ‘21st century thinking’ that led to the Winterbourne View scandal and Remploy outcomes?

Local authorities never have been, and never will be the appropriate organisations to determine and implement day and residential care support policies for adults with learning disabilities – sadly they are not alone, having been joined in the pursuit of fundamentally flawed 21st century doctrinaires by the NHS and major charitable organisations.

There is a need for open debate on the far reaching tragic consequences of ‘21st century thinking’; to this end I have opened an e-petition to generate such a debate: Could I draw your attention to a new government e-petition that, hopefully, your readers might be interested in supporting: epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/36834 From personal experience I am aware that there are other areas of social care within which Bournemouth Social Services excel, such as the support and services offered by the Carers Team and their colleagues.
