It was good to read the letters of support for St. Mary’s church, Ferndown. Quite refreshing in this seemingly growing anti-Christian climate.
Sadly, Emily Sargeant, (February 5) like so many other critics, appears not to fully understand the basis of her own argument. The church’s prime responsibility is to preach and uphold the laws and commandments of Almighty God, and the teachings of His son the Lord Jesus Christ who obeyed, even to His death on the cross, the commandments and the will of his father. The Christian attitude should, of course, always be exercised, (but, alas, so many of us fail despite our efforts) but never, in our duty to others, whether individuals or governments, should we seek to compromise God’s laws or the teachings of Christ because God is greater than man (Job 33:12) and for Christians Jesus is their master (Matthew 23:8).
Also, if Desmond Swayne is a practising Christian (MP’s opinion – same date), he needs to pay more attention to his Bible so as not to make inaccurate statements about what is written (or rather, not written) therein.
