I WISH to draw pedestrians’ attention to yet another menace from the cycling fraternity. Some cyclists are now equipping their bikes with bells and while walking along the Prom on Sunday at least three of these individuals gave me a warning tinkle as they rode up behind me. I find this extremely intimidating and feel that the practice should be outlawed.
Recently the inhabitants of some villages have campaigned against churches ringing their bells on Sunday mornings and evenings. Even if their appeals are successful, it will be a hollow victory if the peace of our Sunday afternoons is to be constantly shattered by the incessant ringing of bicycle bells.
