YET again I have been alarmed whilst driving through Hamworthy at an elderly person riding on a mobility scooter on the main carriageway of the road.

Not only is this very dangerous, but they have no registration plates, and are therefore not permitted to do so. They also pay no road tax, and if they have insurance, it will not cover travelling on the main roads.

The tragedy is that these people are of my generation. They are supposed to have a lifetime of experience, and ought to be doing the right thing. But if a car, lorry or bus hit them, if they survived, they would be the first to complain. These buggies are not for road use, so keep to the pavements, please.
