MANY congratulations to the Cherries, Eddie and Jason, and their team at the Goldsands Stadium, for a magnificent achievement. Wow!

I was very interested in Brian Sushs’ recent letter, as I was taken to Dean Court when I was six, (I am now 83!) by my dad.

We lived in nearby Richmond Wood Road, so we were regular supporters. Dad loved his Cherries.

I remember Dai Woodward, and the team was then probably Ken Bird, Freddie Marsden, Joe Sanaghan, Ernie Tagg, Fred Wilson, Dai Woodward, Johnny McKennzie, Jimmy Blair, Dudley Milligan, Bill Lunn and Jack McDonald, and came within a point of promotion.

I often chuckle when I remember Daddio, going over to the ground to voice his disapproval when Stan Newsham was transferred to Notts County, not in a nasty way, as that was never my father’s style, but he certainly was annoyed then!

Daddio, (and others) always called the team “Boscombe” and they then had the longest name in the football league, “Bournemouth & Boscombe Athletic Football Club”.

I’m only sorry Daddio is not here to see this wonderful achievement.

What Eddie and his team (and I include all of the staff in that) have done for the club is nothing short of a miracle and I, like all the other supporters, wish them every success in the championship.

Not forgetting of course, the great job done by Mr Mitchell and Mr Demin.

Well done guys!
