I MUST reply to Brian J Galpin (It’s between two schools, Daily Echo, July 2).

Poole Town FC spent a few years in the wilderness after their shameful exit from the stadium, built in the 1930s by the unemployed of Poole for the pursuit of football. Their nomadic days appeared to be over when Tatnam – remember those old football pitches? – was proposed as a site for resurrecting their fortunes.

At their lowest ebb the present day chairman, his late father and the present day vice chairman dug deep into their pockets and funded what must have seemed at times like a losing battle. Persevere they did, and today the club finds itself looking forward rather than backward, having climbed a mountain, backed by a small but loyal band of supporters.

We know that in an ideal world the club would be playing football elsewhere, the fortnightly traffic problem would be eradicated, and the school could continue to expand at leisure, but I trust that Mr Galpin is tolerant enough, like the council, to understand that this is an ongoing problem that requires clear, level-headed thought. The last thing we need is a return to playing minor league football outside of the town whose name the club proudly bears.
