I TOO endorse the more cautious approach of Bournemouth Tourism manager Mark Smith in his opposition to Navitus Bay Wind Farm. Visitors don’t come here to see wind turbines; they come here to enjoy the invigorating sea air, glorious beaches and uninterrupted sea views.

In this, Bournemouth reigns supreme along the south coast. What could be done to enhance the view? Put in rows of wind turbines along the horizon? Oh come on Angela Pooley of Friends of the Earth, you can’t possibly believe that this will enhance the view for as the visitor to France recently wrote: ‘Turbines are everywhere to be seen’.

When the entire fleet of turbines has been installed around our coastline, of what visual value will our turbines be then? It may well be that people fed up with the monotony of them will want to go to an area where there are none and the sea view remains unspoiled.

There will be no loss of wind electricity just because Bournemouth Bay’s horizon is not packed to capacity as there are more than enough other areas that can be filled without spoiling a premier seaside view.

Support for the farm is not worth the risks while a rejection might in the end yield a far greater dividend as people come to see what a superb horizon, unusually free of turbines, truly looks like.
