YOUR article ‘Wind farm could be set for new images’ (July 2) didn’t manage to fully explain the different methods that are being used to illustrate the visual impact of the Navitus Bay wind farm.
The developers NBDL provide images using the industry standard SNH2006. This standard is presently being reviewed by SNH with a discussion document out for consultation.
The discussion document is based on Highland Council guidelines which require both standard and enlarged images.
The opposition group Challenge Navitus do not confirm to either SNH2006 or Highland Council guidelines.
They say they confirm to the recommendations of a study from Stirling University that was commissioned by Highland Council in 2011.
Challenge Navitus say they conform but they do not. Instead they have decided to interpret the Stirling University study in their own way so as to produce turbine images magnified larger than ever.
The Stirling University study does make for interesting reading because it is actually a seriously flawed document.
Perhaps this is why the opposition group Challenge Navitus make such a dodgy interpretation from the study’s already dodgy findings.
