The heat wave we are currently experiencing has highlighted just how thin “the thin blue line” is.
With windows thrown wide open, obviously the noise muffling effect of the double glazing is non existent so all outside sound is heard as it actually is.
Every morning before six, a number of motorcycles and scooters roar and scream along the nearby dual carriage way, sounding like a WWII aerial dog fight.
From my misspent youth I know their exhaust silencers have been altered to emit loud “fruity” noises.
Myself and colleagues were constantly being stopped and told off by Police and invariably ended up being charged with the offence of ineffective silencers.
Now nothing happens, bike and car silencer noise, dodgy or no lights, incorrect trailer number plates and many more minor offences but offences nonetheless, all appear to go unchecked. I don't expect a hard line approach but the friendly nudge of PC49, Dixon of Dock Green or the Bobbies in Heartbeat would not go amiss.
