THERE appears to be something of a Loyalty Card bonanza going on.

If we signed up to all of them we would need several wallets/purses to keep them in.

At the petrol station, supermarket, or wherever, I have often said, “It’s a pity they don’t have one card to take all of the points, and make the cashback more rewarding.”

Also, the thought of encouraging shoppers away from the internet and back into the high street came to mind.

My brother lives in Surrey, and apparently the local shops and businesses have got their act together and originated a loyalty card system common to the participating shops. The points end up as cash which can be deducted from one’s electricity or gas bill, which seems a much better idea.

Supermarket or petrol station points are all well and good, but the cash ends up being spent in their till anyway, so how about these ailing town centre businesses getting together like this, to ensure that the rewards actually benefit our pocket rather than the card provider.
