I AM wondering if there are any old ‘Pooleites’ out there that knew the old ‘Powder House’ on Baiter and if so would they like to see it rebuilt?
Powder House is a part of Poole’s maritime history and to my mind should be rebuilt.
I am not advocating widespread development on Baiter, just the rebuilding of the Powder House.
Sensibly there is nothing between the Quay and Whitecliff and I’m wondering if it could be rebuilt as a visitor centre or similar, with artefacts of Poole’s past, the flying boats in the harbour, the Royal Marines and various other things.
Ian Andrews penned a similar plea many years ago but for some reason it was shelved.
My feelings are that if enough groups, The Society of Poole Men; The Flying Boats Assn; and other interested parties were to put their heads together and do something about it, it would be a wonderful thing for our town.
A few years ago there was a hue and cry about a ‘Pyramid’ being built down there, thankfully it was dropped. I will reiterate, I do not advocate wholesale development, just the rebuilding of a very important building in Poole.
