I am absolutely incandescent with rage after reading your news story ‘Shop owner faces jail for selling dangerous illegal booze’ on July 19.
In my opinion the Gunduz couple who ran a highly dangerous, life-threatening counterfeit business with booze containing methanol should have both been slung in a cell and the keys thrown away.
Methanol has a quick and profound effect on the body. Once ingested, the body changes methanol into formaldehyde and formic acid. A build-up of formic acid in the body will damage the nervous system, causing difficulty in breathing, seizures or coma.
If you miraculously survive the lethal toxic effects, there is a strong likelihood you could wake up with impaired vision or completely blind.
The sentence does not fit the crime. The unsuspecting victims in all probability, are puzzled by their physical and mental health demeanour – with many thinking it’s just a coincidence because no one in their right mind could do such a cruelly damaging thing. Sadly, it’s happening in shops, bars and clubs all over Britain.
