WHEN cutting machines were used a few weeks ago to tackle the invasive growth in Poole Park lake, the first two days were used to clear the model boating area.
The cutters were then moved to the main part of the lake but had little impact. As anyone could have foreseen, the weed simply drifted back into the model boating area so that had been a waste of time and money.
The growth in the main lake is now dying and the offensive smell is polluting the atmosphere this morning.
The restaurant owners and the boating businesses must be sick of what we must now regard as an annual event.
The impact on tourism must be considerable as families will not want children to be by this odorous water.
Can we be assured that the park authorities are seeking the best advice? The attempts so far do not inspire confidence in their expertise.
