IFORD Bridge is becoming very popular for launching of kayaks, small boats etc. I’m still surprised at the lack of the correct safety equipment especially life jackets or buoyancy aids. I asked the Environment Agency if some public advisory information could be provided at the location.
The response was an internet link to a “boaters’ guide” and “...it is the individuals’ responsibility to ensure they are wearing the correct safety equipment”. With the airshow fast approaching - please remind your readers to be safe when going afloat anywhere - a lifejacket or buoyancy aid is useless unless it’s actually worn.
I’m going to put up some notices I have from the coastguard - hopefully this will go some way to prevent any repeat of the tragic loss of life seen on UK rivers this summer.
