YET again Dorset County Council have shown that common sense is not one of their attributes by scheduling nine days of non-urgent road works at the Bakers Arms roundabout on the A35, to commence on the August 12 at the height of the peak summer holiday season! Dorset’s poor and already crowded road network is bursting at the seams.
Even without any roadworks there are frequent tailbacks on the westbound carriageway of the Upton by-pass and the A351 to the Purbeck coast because of high holiday traffic volumes. The Bakers Arms junction is a notorious traffic pinch point at the best of times. Yet our highly paid officials and councillors in Dorchester believe the time is right for these non-essential roadworks to start now.
The inconvenience to residents as well as visitors and the impact on businesses seem not to matter a jot to these pen pushers.
