DRAWINGS for the proposals for Ashley Road improvements were on display in St John’s Church Hall and continue to be available on Poole website and in Branksome library and in Bookworms.
What we get in central Ashley Road are wider pavements on the north central Co-op parade, far better provision for buses with two bus-stop shelters on both sides of Ashley, the main lights-controlled crossing moved 30 yards west from in front of the Post Office to near Cash Recycle, much improved crossings at the Churchill Road-Waitrose junction including diagonal crossing, together with several trees going in along the parades.
My only personal dismay is that the very busy crossing in front of Iceland has not been included for improvement.
That today was described by one staff member of a nearby shop as “lethal”.
This on the point that people end up stuck on the island section and this all the worse for elderly or parents with prams.
Sure traffic gives way but the point is surely when people step off onto the road they want to get directly to the other side – not half way with lorries then brushing past six inches away.
The whole point of the exercise is to “roll back the dominance of vehicles over pedestrians” so on that count I hope council officers will agree, as at Sea View, all crossings in Ashley need to be full crossings, either-lights controlled or traditional zebra beacon crossings.
