IT’S appalling that Bournemouth council is paying all that money for a sign going up on the Spur Road when there are no seats on the Overcliff for the elderly holiday makers to take a rest and the lift does not work every day.

We had a weekend in Eastbourne last month and were really surprised. What a nice seaside place – plenty of seating along the prom and places for a cup of tea.

Perhaps Bournemouth’s tourist chiefs and council should pay a visit and see how they have got it right, not just for the elderly but also young families.

What are the council and tourist board doing to encourage people to come and return? I really can’t see a sign worth £76,000 doing that.
