FOLLOWING several articles in your newspaper over the last few weeks regarding the invasion of travellers’ camps, I agree with the comments that as a county we need to find a site for them to go to instead of all the problems which are being caused every year.
Several years ago there was a committee set up in Bournemouth, which included a representative from the travelling community, and discussions were held about where a site could be found. But sadly nothing concrete was decided.
It is now overdue in my opinion that all the Dorset councils and a rep from the travelling community get round a table and listen to each other and identify a suitable place for the travellers to go to and stay. For each town to find a site is not possible as we in Bournemouth have found out after a lot of work and public meetings, etc. The only way forward is working together and including the travellers themselves.
I hope this ongoing problem will then find a solution.
