I TAKE issue with Poole Council members who say ‘we are doing all we can’ to deal with unauthorised traveller encampments (Daily Echo, August 10).
They may be doing all they can to get travellers removed after they have taken up residence in parks or other council-owned property but this is not solving the real problem.
All councils have been tasked with the requirement to find proper transit sights for the travellers but over a number of years Poole Council has failed to find a single site let alone get one built and operational.
One suspects they fear a voter backlash but until they find suitable sites – and many exist and could be developed – we will all have to suffer the annual invasion and degradation of our public spaces.
Enough is enough.
Forget eviction orders and find some proper sites to solve this problem once and for all.
