I was delighted to read the A-level students who suffered the indignation of having a great deal of their art course work destroyed by the fire at Lytchett Minster School have successfully turned adversity into success by exceeding their own expectation.
I still recall the drama of the arts block roof burning before me while out walking my dogs. One of the most emotive scenes I witnessed was a young teacher, not much older than her pupils giving reassurance and comfort to them. Since the fire, headmaster, Stuart Clark and his team have worked relentlessly in turning that lightning strike into the heralding of a new dawn, whereby those school leavers will have learned one of life’s most important lessons – there is no substitute for hard work.
I wish them all well for the future.
