JUDGE Samuel Wiggs is completely out of touch with public opinion if he believes that there is no public interest in sending Robert Finlay to prison, after Finlay was found guilty of downloading in excess of 600 indecent images of children.
The vast majority of us are very much in favour of people like Finlay being locked up – and for a very long time.
What makes Finlay’s crime even more heinous is that he was responsible for online safety with Bournemouth Children’s Services and a school governor.
And why should the fact that he had recently lost his father and the breakdown of his marriage have been regarded as “mitigation” for his vile offences?
This case should be referred to the Home Secretary for investigation due to the extreme leniency of the sentence handed down by Judge Wiggs – who should also be barred from sitting in judgement on any similar cases.
