IN response to Mr Glanville’s letter ‘rolling along into future’ regarding people being allowed ‘the right’ to skateboard and rollerblade along the promenade, I would love to be able to support that but just cannot with any conscience. What Mr Glanville may not be aware of is the reason the ban was imposed in the first place.

Unfortunately not all people who used the promenade in those ways, including cycling, did so with responsibility to other users.

The ban was imposed in response to demand from other people who saw, sometimes directly, the risk to young children. We have other paved paths where shared use continues and we have to constantly remind all users to be mindful of others.

The promenade, however, on a hot sunny day is simply too crowded to forego the ban.
