THE Canford School Hustings report was excellent. I enjoyed the debate but it concentrated too much on national issues covered elsewhere.
My wife said the candidates should consider the demographics of their constituents and then prioritise.
We have a higher proportion of elderly, so toilets, public transport and healthcare should be paramount.
For those with needs in the real world, Poole council needs to be pressurised by prospective MPs.
It is mind blowing that politicians cannot understand why 24-hour access to public toilets is needed.
Broadstone Library for example shuts at 5pm, the Lighthouse is shut on Monday and after 11pm.
Walks at Sandbanks and Baiter Park should not be avoided due to closed or non-existent cafes. National Express and trains do run after midnight.
Poor public transport causes car growth, with numerous health costs and damage to the economy and difficulty in getting to hospitals.
Morebus boasts about their profitability and how Poole passengers have gone up 90 per cent in the last decade, which is good.
Why then have Poole council and our politicians been so weak in representing the 3,000 residents of Canford Magna and Merley?
We have been bus-less for 11 years since the cutting back of our established bus services to Wimborne and Poole in 2006.
This farce could be corrected tomorrow within the current timetable and with no bus subsidy.
The answer of course is MPs and councillors are not reliant on buses or public toilets.
A world class tourist destination, heaven for the locals paying £2,000 in council tax?
Unlikely, but forceful people of vision making sensible decisions could make a difference.
