THE Echo continues to publish letters complaining about the decision of the CCG to re-organise the NHS locally.
This time from Siobhan Coleman demanding that BCP challenge the decision.
BCP should act in the best interests of all their residents, who will by and large either be no worse off or even better off and not a minority from outside the area however vocal.
It is easy to criticise the proposals but you cannot run an NHS on sentiment or wishes and the objectors fail tell us how they could fund and staff the hospitals if we keep the existing set up.
If nothing is done we may well end up with an underfunded and under staffed NHS with ever increasing waiting times at both A&E and for treatments leading to more and more deaths.
The objectors seem unable to comprehend that possibility.
One of the cases for the objectors has been the increase in car journeys across the conurbation but the Covid 19 situation has showed one way to reduce the number of journeys to hospital.
I have recently had two consultations to discuss test results and which were conducted over the phone.
This meant no driving to hospital and trying to find somewhere to park. Result – four less trips.
As well as that there was no sitting around waiting.
Whilst not all appointments can be done over the phone, this surely is the way to go wherever possible. It has advantages for everyone.
