BOB Woodland (‘It was not Trump’, Daily Echo, April 30) completely ignores the fact that had President Chump (sic) not dismissed the corona pandemic as ‘nothing more than flu’ – action to prevent the spread of the virus was delayed by weeks. As a result, in just six weeks, more American lives have been lost to corona than were lost in the two-decade long Vietnam War.

The 45th president will go down in history as Mr Teflon, the president with a built-in ‘no-fault’ clause. Quick to blame others when things go awry, but only too eager to blow his own trumpet (pun intended) every time he takes to the podium.

The great President Harry S Truman had a sign on his desk in the Oval Room that read “The buck stops here”. It would be no surprise to learn that a sign on Trump’s desk reads “Don’t blame me”.

And yes, Mr Woodland, I am well aware that the pandemic originated on the other side of the world. Hitler started the Second World War – but it’s a good thing for all of us that Churchill didn’t “do a Trump” and dismiss the invasion of Poland as “Nothing to worry about”!
