REGARDING Baden-Powell’s statue on Poole Quay, those who believe that he supported Hitler are sadly misinformed.
His contacts with the German authorities before the war were purely to establish friendly relations between the youth of Germany and the UK.
The Germans, on the other hand, believed that the Boy Scouts were intended to be spies, and added Baden-Powell’s name to a list of people to be apprehended once the Nazis has taken over Britain, in which event he would surely have been executed.
Stand up for Baden Powell-against the ignorant, baying mob! Otherwise what price truth, justice, and democracy?
