FIFTY-SIX per cent didn’t vote Conservative.
On the first anniversary of the last general election could I remind readers that although our government has an 80 seat majority it achieved this with only 43.6 per cent of the votes cast.
The “first past the post” electoral system that we use in the UK has caused this massive distortion.
It has produced a parliament that is not fully representative of the votes cast, and which leaves many under-represented and some not represented at all.
Our nation needs to adopt a system of proportional representation to ensure that future parliaments are truly representative.
Make Votes Matter (MVM) campaigns for the introduction of proportional representation and a fair voting system.
Find out more at makevotesmatter.org.uk or join the local group (mvmdorset@gmail.com) and help the move to a true democracy.
