I have a holiday home near Bournemouth and come down often and was pleased to see your headline (June 5) regarding cyclists on the prom. This was followed up with an article in the Daily Express on June 9 with a quote from Charmaine Andrews of Bournemouth Council Leisure services: “We have a duty to ensure the promenade is a safe enviroment for everyone to enjoy.
This obviously does not seem to apply to the driver of the council’s tractor on the beach who, on Friday last, left the beach, up the slope, over the pavement and down the promenade road at an excess of 30mph returning in the same manner and at a similar speed.
No one would have stood a chance.
I would rather risk being knocked over by a cyclist than one of these ridiculously reckless tractors any day.
