I am just in the process of completing the purchase of a flat in Suffolk Road for my elderly mother to see out her last years in the town she has always loved.
We chose Suffolk Road for the closeness to the shops, the lovely gardens and the beach, which can all be easily reached through the pedestrian underpass.
You can imagine our horror when we read the Echo’s lead story on June 16, regarding the proposed travellers’ site, and cannot believe it is the thought to be the “least bad place to put it”.
If the site is approved, the underpass will become a no go area, and my mother will be too frightened to use it, which renders the flat not suitable for my mother’s needs.
To cancel the purchase of the flat would result in losing the deposit of several thousand pounds, and the possibility of the vendor suing me.
If I go ahead with the purchase, the value of the flat will be greatly reduced.
I wonder if the council are prepared to cover the cost of the loss, either way?
