WHEN I received my quarterly gas bill last month, I noticed I had been charged an extra two per cent added onto my bill. Explanation? Government obligation to help the environment.
This month we are told a extra two per cent will be added to our quarterly electricity bills. Government explanation? To help pay for Carbon Capture.
This week we are told by the government an extra 50p a month (£6 a year) will be added to the bills of those of us who have a land line phone.
Government explanation? To help private companies roll out broadband connections across the country.
These companies make billions of pounds of profit on what they are already charging us, without the government adding extra.
They are robbing the poor to help the rich.
I do not have a computer, nor do I want one.
I am trying to use less energy to keep my utility bills down to a minimum – including my phone bill.
It really makes me angry that this government is putting up these prices, to benefit people who are better off. If people want broadband then they should pay for it themselves, and not expect poor people to pay for it.
I strongly object to these plans and have written to my MP about it.
I suggest other people in Dorset and Hampshire who are also on low incomes write to their MPs and complain about it.
