I am writing with regard to the three-day Jehovah’s Witness conference at Dean Court football stadium at the weekend.
I understand it attracted approximately 6,000 people each day and there were car parking facilities for 300 cars!
Consequently the surrounding roads, every space in Kings Park, verges etc were full to capacity from before 9am to nearly 6pm.
If a resident had to go out it was impossible to find a space within half a mile when they returned, as the timetable for the event meant people were arriving throughout the morning and parked in any available space!
The last day was Sunday, which was Fathers Day. We contacted our sons and told them not to bring their cars as it was impossible to park, which inconvenienced us as well as other families. We also had to shop and went by bus so as not to lose our parking space.
If this event is to take place again next year surely it is possible to arrange a park and ride system so those travelling from other parts of the south coast could be taken to the stadium by coach or bus, thus not inconveniencing us all again.
