IN A recent letter Phillip Whitelegg suggested that cycling should be banned on the promenade throughout the year because of a few accidents caused by stupid, reckless cyclists.
In other words he wants to stop the many over-50s and 60s who cycle slowly and carefully along the promenade, even on cold winter days when the promenade is empty. How ridiculous, given that the vast majority of promenade cyclists are careful and responsible citizens and council tax payers.
How ridiculous, given that the land train is allowed to use the promenade, particularly the narrower section between Bournemouth Pier and Alum Chine.
Does Mr Whitelegg wish also to ban all traffic from Bournemouth’s roads because perhaps 10 per cent of drivers are stupid, reckless, uninsured, banned etc and have caused many serious accidents?
