I HAVE read with growing concern the articles on the proposed travellers’ site.

I don’t pretend to have the answers to our conundrum, however I think it’s right to point out that we should not rush into any rash decisions, nor allow tempers to boil over, because it can only damage the opportunities for debate.

We all must remember who will be affected by the decisions made and how they will be affected, and finally what the implications for the town as a whole will be.

Maybe it’s right to proceed now with a legal site, and maybe it’s right to wait, however that’s not my call.

I can only plead from the side lines for compassion and understanding. We shouldn’t become so blinded by our own rage that we become part of the problem, nor am I saying, of course, that we are at the moment part of it. But the fact is, only clear action and measured debate will solve and combat injustice.

It’s just a suggestion, but before things get too hot we need to remember that we shouldn’t compromise ourselves like that because when we do we become what we loathe.
