TWO stories about the same area on opposite pages (Daily Echo, June 23, p4-5).

One: plans to change the layout of The Triangle and provide an area for markets etc.

This is a long-awaited plan for locals and visitors alike.

Two: make available land just up the road for a travellers’ site! Travellers choose their way of life, and surely should not be given a prime site near to the centre of Bournemouth, which we are trying to upgrade to attract holiday-makers.

A flat or B&B for a visitor to rent would be quite costly so near the town and beach.

We have plenty of sites on the outskirts of the town which could be used.

Most of the travellers have transport, or there are buses if they choose to visit the town, and I do not understand why they have to be given such a valuable position.

The businesses in The Triangle will not be well pleased to cope with them as well as trying to welcome visitors. Once decided, it will be very difficult to close it down again. Bournemouth has a lot to do to compete with other seaside towns, and this will certainly not be of benefit.

  • ONE could be forgiven for thinking that the powers that be on Bournemouth council are paving the way for the town centre to become a no-go area for residents and tourists (higher car parking charges) and a free-for-all for travellers (proposed site near Bournemouth Gardens).
