Melanie Vass (Daily Echo, June 25) asks: “Where now for a travellers’ site?”
The answer is obvious! If the council is going to close the Hengistbury Head centre then that is the perfect site for it – council owned with all the facilities already installed: electricity, water, toilets, buildings for communal activities.
It is also in walking distance of a bus route, on level ground, there are no pylons or rubbish tips and there is swimming, sailing and canoeing!
Or perhaps the council might, at last, recognise the richness and value of this superb asset and unequivocally agree in principle to subsidise it suitably and permanently instead of a travellers’ site which, no doubt, will require a hefty subsidy from the council tax payer.
