With so much ponderous bean-counting going on in wondering why there are fewer shoppers on the streets of Bournemouth, Poole, and the various shopping centres in the area (Daily Echo, June 22) I don’t think VAT has any bearing upon it.

What about Internet shopping?

Five years go my family would make a weekly trip to Poole, and it was a regular event and one that we would have missed. But now, any shopping which cannot be found in the local supermarkets is bought on the internet.

One would have thought these bods who undertake these surveys would have taken this into account.
