I attended my allocated polling station at Christ the King School in Durdells Avenue and, having successfully negotiated the single lane road for two-way traffic, eventually managed to obtain one of the six parking spaces.
Then came the trek through a building site, following the arrows to the polling station, a portable cabin located at the rear of the building site.
What wonderful arrangements – surely the portable cabin could have been located at the front of the building or is that expecting too much for the convenience of the voters?
As the building works appear to have been going on for some time, I would have thought alternative arrangements could have been made – somewhere on a bus route for people who don’t drive or somewhere with parking.
The Kinson Hub springs to mind, recently built a considerable cost with all facilities available.
Perhaps we need a new returning officer, who I am informed, is in charge of all election arrangements and then perhaps with adequate and accessible polling stations with percentage vote will increase, as candidates present yesterday indicated the arrangements will probably cost them votes.
I did telephone the helpline to express my feelings, only to be informed by a recorded message that the office was not manned. What an election organisation.
